Subject Aims:

  • Adopting “the three major directions” (Cultivate Values for Leaders of Tomorrow, Student-centred learning, Creating Space to Foster Whole-person Development) (EDB Circular No. 17/2024 ‘Ongoing Renewal of the School Curriculum: The Primary Education Curriculum Guide (2024))
  • Promoting values education with a focus on ‘Appreciation’, ‘Love and Care’, ‘Diligence’, ‘Responsibility’ and ‘Law-abidingness’. (CG: P.11)
  • Facilitating students’ learning of subject knowledge and skills, in the form of learning targets under the Interpersonal, Knowledge and Experience Strands, as well as learning objectives, generic skills, and positive values and attitudes. (CG: P.11)
  • Cultivating students’ reading ability and interests as ‘to equip students well for a dynamically changing society, schools should help students progress from “Learning to Read” to “Reading to Learn”. (Basic Education Curriculum Guide-To Sustain, Deepen and Focus on Learning to Learn (Primary 1-6): 3.4 The Way Forward for “Reading to Learn”), that align with our school’s major concerns.

 

Subject Features:

  • Alphie Phonics Programme is integrated with the English Curriculum for P.1 to P.6 to help students be familiar with the letter sounds, skills of stretch-and-read and blending, which aims to enhance their ability in pronunciation and spelling.

 

  • PLP-RW Programme is implemented in P.1-P.3 which helps students to learn English from reading to writing. Our NETs co-teach with local teachers to cater for learner diversity. 2 English Rooms were set up for the programme and a language-rich environment has been created to arouse the interest of students.

 

                  

 

  • Reading Lesson is implemented in P.4-P.6 to cultivate students’ reading abilities and interest. Our NET co-teaches with local teachers and conducts varied reading activities.

                           

 

  • Re-grouping of students is conducted in P.5 and P.6. 5 classes of students are divided into 6 groups according to their English proficiency to help cater for individual differences. Teachers prepare different teaching materials and classroom activities based on students’ needs.

 

  • ‘From Reading to Writing’ is integrated in the curriculum for P.5. Students learn to write from a series of reading tasks which arouse their motivation and build up their vocabulary needed for the writing tasks.

 

  • Jockey Club Project ‘RISE’ is implemented in P.1-P.3. Fascinating teaching materials are provided by the Education University of Hong Kong. Students have the lessons within a meaningful and authentic context.

 

  • Jockey Club ‘Diversity at Schools’ Project is implemented in P.4 and P.6. Teaching materials considering students ‘different needs’ are designed. The goal of the project is to maximize the learning potentials and outcomes of each student.
